90 Sec #5 – REEPICHEEP: Narnia Character Profile – 1 (YouTube)

Here’s the fifth show from my 90 second YouTube channel. This episode varies slightly from the others, as it is the first of an occasional “Narnia Character Profile,” aimed at giving you a brief look at one of the many characters from Lewis’ most beloved stories.

Note the text version of the show is below, WITH footnotes!

REEPICHEEP: Narnia Character Profile – 1

Welcome to the first of a series focusing on characters from Narnia. I trust these mini-profiles will help you enjoy the stories even more…

Reepicheep is the loveable talking mouse introduced in the second published story, Prince Caspian. Of course, in this first appearance, he is more of a minor character. However, in The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, he has a much bigger role.

Anyone familiar with Reepicheep knows he is notorious for his courage. Paul Ford in Companion to Narnia noted: “True courage is the strength of Aslan, and Reepicheep is its embodiment.”[1] Courtesy is another of Reepicheep’s many positive qualities.

In Prince Caspian, he leads a group of other fearless mice in the Second Battle of Beruna, where he nearly dies. After his recovery, he becomes overly concerned of his honor by worrying too much about having lost his tail.

In The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, we learn of his quest to find Aslan’s Country. Despite being teased by Eustace in the story, Reepicheep helps him in a variety of ways. Then at the end of the story, Reepicheep is able to fulfill his pursuit of Aslan’s Country, which also results in him saving everyone on the ship.
